British Columbia Civil Liberties Association | 1 March 2004 | For Immediate Release UBC
Civil Liberties Group Welcomes "Prince of Pot" to the UBC Campus The
newly formed Civil Liberties Association of the University of British
Columbia (CLA UBC) is pleased to announce that it is bringing cannabis
activist, publisher and pot-tv producer Marc Emery - the "Prince of
Pot" - to UBC for a one-hour discussion on Tuesday March 2, 2004. Mr.
Emery will speak on the importance of getting out the youth vote in
the upcoming federal election, the reform of Canada's cannabis laws
and the harms caused by cannabis prohibition. The discussion will take
place at the UBC Faculty of Law, room 101/102, commencing at 4:00 pm.
Coincidentally, the Minister of Justice, Irwin Cotler, will be speaking
in the same room earlier in the day. Mr. Emery has a long history of advocating for the reform of Canada's marijuana laws, is the publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine and the producer of the internet television station Pot-TV (www.pot-tv.net). He is currently on a country-wide speaking tour at many of Canada's universities, encouraging youth to participate in the upcoming federal election. The CLA-UBC is a newly-formed campus civil liberties association, independent from but supported by the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association. CLA-UBC membership is open to all UBC students, as well as students at other universities and the general public.
