    A. Homelessness
    Kara Sockett/Directions Youth Services

In this session Kara and experiential co-presenters will give an overview of housing dynamics in Vancouver as they impact homeless youth of the Downtown area of Vancouver. The session will describe antecedents to youth homelessness, some successes of the Youth Housing Support Program at Directions, discuss challenges of securing housing with/for homeless and at-risk youth, and describe the successful exit strategies youth have employed to leave the downtown Vancouver area.

    B. Student Activism 101
    Spencer Herbert and Romi Chandra

Got an issue you want to address in school but not sure how to get started? This interactive workshop will provide you with some basic steps in creating inclusive groups. These groups can range from creating a safe space (Gay/Straight Alliances) to taking on projects that effect/affect your entire school. If you already have a club, share your ideas with the rest and plan for the future of your club when you leave school. Receive the tools you need to create change!

    C. Media Concentration and Civic Activism
    Kevin Milsip/Check Your Head

Media doesn’t always tell us what to think, but it often tells us what to think about. This workshop examines the implications of concentrated media ownership and how that may affect your perception and attitudes. It challenges participants to question media bias, to think critically about what’s included and not included in our mediated world and to look at alternative options for gathering information.

    D. Social Networks in an Electronic Age
    Vance Lockton and Micheal Vonn

How Would You Feel If Your Parents Were On Facebook? "Gross"... "Like I was being stalked".

People using social networking sites want control. We want control over our own image and message, and control over who we share that with. Research shows that we all want these things and yet, when anyone mentions the "P" word (that's "Privacy", not "Parents") it's like we're being offered cod liver oil. And how can you be social and private at the same time, anyhow? This is an interactive workshop about controlling our social networking spaces.

    E. Food Security
    Environmental Youth Alliance

    Food Security in Vancouver
This interactive workshop gives a broad overview of the present state of food security in Vancouver, as well as what local non-profits are doing to address it. Learn about what food security means and how it bridges the gap between all humans. People need access to safe and healthy foods at all times. The recent discovery of melamine in foods exported by China servs to illustrate the importance of food security.

Be exposed to the various projects going on in your city right now and see how anyone and everyone can fit within a vibrant network creating positive social change everyday. If you consider poverty and environmentalism as issues of concern, enjoy mind-tickling games and open-minded debates, and are looking for a bit of fun and inspiration, then this workshop is the one for you!
