 DEATH IN-CUSTODY FORUM

The British Columbia Civil Liberties Association presents:

Death In-Custody Forum:
Current Experiences, Future Reform

Monday, September 24, 2007
8:30 am - 1:00 pm
UBC Robson Square Theatre
800 Robson Street (downstairs)

Vancouver, B.C.

Each year, a startling number of civilians die or sustain serious injuries while in the custody or being pursued by the police in large cities and small communities throughout British Columbia and Canada. These critical incidents are the most serious of interactions between the police and the community they police. They often generate intense media scrutiny. In-custody deaths demand the highest level of police accountability.

The B.C. Civil Liberties Association is hosting a public forum to examine the current system of accountability for police when there is a civilian death. The forum will provide an opportunity for three families to relate their experiences with the current system after the death of one their family members.

Speakers will also include lawyers who have represented these families as well as former police regulators who will identify the problems with the current system as well as propose solutions for reform.

The forum is FREE to the public but registration is requested.

Please e-mail the BCCLA with your name and contact info to register to attend the forum or
