BCCLA Sues City of Powell River for Free Speech Violation Over Defamation Threat
The British Columbia Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) has filed a lawsuit in the Supreme
Court of British Columbia against the City of Powell River for violation of the free expression
rights of citizens to criticize their government.

BCCLA Calls on CanWest to Drop its Legal Action Against Accused Satirists
In an open letter, the B.C. Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) is calling on CanWest to drop
its lawsuit against Mordecai Briemberg and a local publisher, Horizons Publications over an alleged
trademark infringement based on a mock edition of the Vancouver Sun.

Montebello Summit: Request for a Public Inquiry
BCCLA and Ligue des droits et libertés have come together to request that a judicial inquiry be
established to investigate the conduct of police and security forces assembled for the Security
and Prosperity Partnership summit that was held in Montebello, Québec August 20-21, 2007,
including the conduct of the police in the days leading up to the summit.

to ensure that demonstrators’ rights will be protected at the Security and Prosperity Partnership
of North America (SPP) Summit, where heads of state and business leaders will be meeting on
