    Internship - Summer 2011
The BC Civil Liberties Association is the oldest and most active civil liberties organization in Canada, working to preserve, defend, maintain and extend civil liberties and human rights in British Columbia and across Canada.

We offer summer-term internships for law students.  Interns work in all of our program areas and engage in public policy advocacy by assisting us in litigation, public education, research and media.  This year, we will be hosting two to three student fellows to work full-time (40 hours a week) on cutting-edge legal issues, including advocating for greater police accountability, protecting privacy rights, and national security issues.

Students are not compensated by the BCCLA for their internships.  They will receive, however, one-on-one supervision of their legal work by lawyers on our staff and have opportunities to engage in all aspects of public advocacy, including working with the media.

How to Apply:  Interested students should send (1) a cover letter explaining their interest in the BCCLA and discussing the particular issues they would be interested in working on at the BCCLA; (2) a current law school transcript; (3) a legal writing sample; (4) a current curriculum vitae; and (5) contact information for two references.  These items should be sent by email to shannon@bccla.org with “Legal Internship” as the subject line.  The deadline for applications is November 12, 2010.  However, we will accept and evaluate applications on a rolling basis, so students with a strong interest in joining us are encouraged to apply early.

For more information about BCCLA’s summer internships, please contact Carmen Cheung at carmen@bccla.org.  For more information about the BCCLA and its work, please visit our website at bccla.org.

    Internship - Fall and Winter
The BCCLA has an opportunity for students interested in gaining experience through an internship in the fall and winter of 2010/2011. Contact David Eby for more information.

    Legal
Across Canada, lawyers provide pro bono services, representing the Association in various courts. Without these services, a great deal of what has been accomplished by the BCCLA would never have happened.
